Before Christmas, during our drive to school one morning my daughter asked me if I had any New Year’s resolutions yet.
Raise your hand if you are happy to see 2020 in the rearview mirror?
Both of my hands are raised, and I’m balancing on one leg to raise a leg too. I’m that happy! Back to resolutions. I always make them. I rarely keep them. I always try again, fresh and eager the following year.
One sure fire resolution that I make each year is to read more. Less technology and more old fashioned reading. In my perfect world, I would be a fast reader-someone who could devour literature and move to the next. In reality, I’m slow and steady. I love reading, but my mind wanders. Sometimes, I have to re-read.
I recently read Pride and Prejudice and about a year later re-read it on accident. It wasn’t until about halfway through that I realized I had read it pretty recently. Am I the only one that gets it and Sense an Sensibility confused? But, I press on.
As co-founder of Bellator Catholic Media, it was important to me that we highlight all of the good that the Catholic Church does, has done, and is doing throughout every aspect of our human existence. We have highlighted many of these artists, musicians, scientists, and even beer and whiskey makers! We are a well rounded bunch with many interests, but always committed to excellence. I love telling my girls about different universities, hospitals, medicines, and inventions attributed to the Church. In an increasing secular world, we are inundated with the idea that science is the end all be all and religion is fantasy. Catholics know this is rubbish! Catholics know that faith and reason go hand in hand. Science has flourished because of and not in spite of Catholic geniuses, and as Bishop Robert Barron said, “other super smart people!”
For this reason, I am THRILLED that Bishop Barron has just published a book titled, Brilliant! 25 Catholic Scientists, Mathematicians, and Supersmart People.
This is a book I have wanted to read. It is like the good Bishop read my mind. In full disclosure, I have not read it yet, but I can’t wait. It is ordered. As I type this, it is currently on backorder, but that is a very good thing! Get this book. Read this book. Share this with your friends, family, and especially young minds who are eager to know and to learn the truth of our wildly diverse, faithful, and BRILLIANT Church!
This month we are highlighting books on the blog.
We hope you enjoy going on ride with us as diverse as our Church as we explore a plethora of titles, authors and literature in general. Our contributors jumped on this topic fast, and that means it is going to be a great month of blogs.
We are praying for you that 2021 is filled with peace, joy, faith, family, and many many books!
For easy ordering, we have included a link to Bishop Barron’s book! Enjoy.
